Iberia to join Europe-Japan airline alliance

Travel Daily Media – August 16, 2016 – Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism (MLIT) has granted an extension of the anti-trust immunity for the venture, allowing the four airlines to cooperate commercially on flights.

Iberia will start operating three weekly direct flights between Madrid and Tokyo on 18 October 2016.

These will run alongside Finnair’s services from Helsinki to Tokyo Narita, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka, BA’s flights from London Heathrow to Tokyo’s Narita and Haneda airports, and JAL’s routes from Narita and Haneda airports to Paris, from Haneda to London and from Narita to Frankfurt and Helsinki.

The four airlines, which are all members of the oneworld alliance, will now codeshare together on all these flights.

“We are very happy to launch our non-stop flights to Japan as part of this joint business. We want to offer our customers more and better travel options and this will help us do so. We are also glad to contribute to the strength of the joint business and the oneworld alliance,” said Luis Gallego, president & CEO of Iberia.
